Office & desk chairs

The chair already fits you.
Only the surface quit.

A chair you sit in all day is adjusted, broken in and shaped to how you work. The frame, the gas lift and the tilt mechanism usually have years left. Desk chair reupholstery NYC renews the leather, vinyl or fabric on top of them — the one part that actually wears out.

On-site leather repair · Workshop recovery · Color matching · NYC, Long Island & New Jersey

Why recover instead of replace

You are throwing away engineering to replace a skin.

The expensive part of a good desk chair is underneath: the tilt tension, the lumbar carrier, the gas cylinder, the cast base. None of that is what fails. What fails is a seat front that has been slid across ten thousand times, an arm pad polished through by a shirt cuff, and a back panel that cracked where it flexes.

Desk chair reupholstery NYC work replaces exactly that layer. We take the covers off, renew the foam where it has collapsed, and put new leather, vinyl or fabric back on the same frame you already know how to sit in. The chair returns set up the way you had it.

Executive high-backs, mid-back task chairs, mesh operator chairs, drafting stools and the soft swivel chairs that end up in a corner — desk chair reupholstery NYC covers all of them. It makes no difference whether the frame came from a contract maker like Humanscale or from a catalogue nobody kept.

Where the line is

We do the soft parts. Not the hardware.

Being clear about this saves everyone a wasted visit. We rebuild every surface you touch — covers, foam, arm pads, seams and panels. We do not service the moving parts underneath. If your problem is that the seat sinks on its own or the tilt has stopped locking, that is a cylinder or a mechanism, and a new cover will not fix it.

If the chair is comfortable and holds its height but only looks finished, that is desk chair reupholstery NYC in one sentence.

We repair

Scuffs, cuts, tears, split seams, worn piping, cracked panels and color loss.

We replace

Collapsed foam, arm pads, individual panels or the complete seat and back.

We do not touch

Castors, gas cylinders, tilt mechanisms and anything electrical.

What actually fails

Five faults, and none of them start in the frame.

Where each one starts

Every one of these is a surface fault. That is the whole case for desk chair reupholstery NYC: the layer that failed comes off, and the mechanism you paid for stays where it is.

Before and after

The seat gave out. The chair did not.

Cream executive chair, seat worn throughLeft, as it arrived. Right, back together with the same arms, base and gas lift under it.

The coating had gone from the middle of the seat — the strip you drag across getting in and out — while everything holding it up was sound.

So nothing that still worked was replaced. The arms, the base and the gas lift in the right-hand frame are the ones that came in on the left; only the surface is new. That is desk chair reupholstery NYC on a chair someone had already adjusted to themselves, and it is why the chair went back to the same desk instead of to the curb.

Leather takes the wear and shows it slowlyA pigmented hide handles daily contact and can be recolored later instead of recovered. It is the usual answer for a chair that gets sat in every day.

Piping is where a chair splitsThe seam along an edge takes the load every time someone drops into the seat, so it is stitched heavier than the panel it joins.

An office chair is a wear problem before it is a looks problem, so we pick by rub count and finish rather than by swatch: pigmented leather and heavy contract vinyl for a seat that takes a full week, and contract textiles from mills like Kvadrat where the back has to breathe. Most of what desk chair reupholstery NYC gets wrong is the material, not the sewing.

Matched as a set

A desk chair usually arrives on its own. Meeting rooms do not — they come as a set that has to match after the work, not before it. When the job is a floor rather than a chair, it stops being desk chair reupholstery NYC and becomes a scheduled round, and that is handled as its own kind of project.

Multi-chair and whole-floor work

Common questions

What owners ask before sending a chair in.

Can you match the leather on one chair to the others?

Usually, yes. Matching an existing set is a color problem rather than a material one, and most desk chair reupholstery NYC jobs are exactly that. It is easier when we can work from one of the originals rather than a photograph.

Do I lose the chair for long?

Small work — an arm pad, a seam, a scuff — is done on site. A full recover means the chair comes to the workshop, because the covers have to come off the carriers.

The seat sinks. Can you fix that?

If it sinks slowly under you, that is the gas cylinder and it is not something we service. If it feels hard and dished but holds its height, that is foam, and it is — the same seat foam replacement we do on any seat pad.

Is it worth it on an ordinary task chair?

It depends what is wrong. A cover and foam on a sound frame is worth doing. A chair whose mechanism has failed is not, and we will tell you that rather than take the job.

Can you change the color?

Yes. A recover is the natural moment to change it, since the panels are being cut new anyway. Going darker is simpler than going lighter. If the panels are sound and only the finish has gone, color restoration is the cheaper route.

Do you work outside Manhattan?

Yes. Desk chair reupholstery NYC work runs across the boroughs, Long Island and northern New Jersey, and collection and delivery is arranged for anything coming to the workshop.

A picture of the seat front, the arm or the back panel tells us whether the chair needs recoloring, a single panel, or a full recover. That is the whole difference in what desk chair reupholstery NYC involves on your chair.
