Dental chair reupholstery — a navy vinyl dental chair and matching operator stool in a bright operatory
Dental chair reupholstery · NYC

The chair stays plumbed in. The cushions come to us.

Dental chair reupholstery without moving the chair. The pads unscrew after the last patient, are recovered in our shop and go back on before the operatory reopens.

What comes off

Only the upholstery leaves the room.

The chair is bolted to the floor, plumbed to the delivery unit and wired to the foot control. None of that is touched. Dental chair reupholstery takes the pads, and nothing else.

Why it gives out

The cover goes long before the chair does.

The mechanism is built for decades. The vinyl over it is not, and once it opens it can no longer be properly cleaned. More on the healthcare hub.

One operatory, one weekend

Friday close to Monday's first patient.

A general practice with a cracked seat and a split headrest. This is how the chair went through.

  1. Friday, after the last patient

    Pads off, chair untouched

Seat, back, headrest and arms unscrewed and labeled by position. Each pad's hardware is bagged with it.

Dental chair pads removed and laid on a padded cart beside the bare chair frame, screws in labeled bags
  2. In the shop

    Old vinyl stripped, foam checked

Foam that has flattened or taken on fluid is cut new. See foam replacement.

  3. Saturday

Cut and sewn to the old pattern

The old panels become the pattern, so the new cover follows the same seam lines and contours.

  4. Saturday

    Pulled and stapled from behind

The cover is stretched over the backer board and fixed on the underside, so no fastener shows on the face.

  5. Sunday

    Every corner checked

Corners are where a dental pad wrinkles first, so each one is inspected before the pads are packed.

  6. Monday, before opening

    Back on, run through recline

Pads refitted to the same positions, and the chair run through its full recline so nothing binds.

Color

One color, cut for the whole practice.

Match the vinyl you already have, or move every operatory to one new color. See custom color matching and material matching.

All covers are medical-grade commercial vinyl, chosen for the disinfectant you use under your ADA infection control routine.

Questions

What practices ask first.

How much of the chair is removed for dental chair reupholstery?

Only the upholstered pads: seat, back, headrest and armrests. The chair stays bolted down and connected, so nothing needs an equipment technician to reinstall.

Will the practice have to close?

No. Pads come off after the last appointment and go back on before the operatory reopens, usually over a weekend or overnight.

Can you reupholster any make of dental chair?

We work from the pads themselves, so most makes and models can be recovered. Send a photo of the chair and its model plate with your quote request.

Can you match our existing color?

Yes. We match the color and grain of the vinyl you have, or recover the whole practice in one new color so every operatory matches.

Will the new vinyl stand up to our disinfectants?

We use medical-grade vinyl made for repeated disinfection. Tell us which products you use and we choose the vinyl to suit them.

What if the foam under the cover is damaged?

It is replaced at the same time. Foam that has flattened or taken on fluid is cut new, so the pad keeps its shape.
