upholstery materials Miami The Material Decides Everything
Two sofas that look identical can need opposite treatments. What the cover is made of decides the method, the price and whether it is worth doing.
What Your Cover Is Made Of
Twelve materials, and the one question we ask before quoting anything.

Unsealed, soft, and it drinks everything.

A light coat over natural grain.

The coated hide most modern sofas use.

Open nap that takes colour differently.

Brushed and easily marked by water.

A coating on a backing. It peels.

Vinyl behaving like hide, until it does not.

Hard-wearing, and it splits rather than cracks.

Weave, repeat and yardage decide the job.

The one part designed to be replaced.

Stitched edges fail before flat panels.

What holds a seat up, out of sight.
Three Things To Know
The American Institute for Conservation sets out what conservation involves and why material identification comes first.

A drop of water tells us more than a photograph.

Pigmented leather is a coating, and coatings can be rebuilt.

Once bonded sheeting peels, a cover is the answer.
Identification Comes First
The single most expensive mistake in this trade is treating a coated hide as if it were a natural one. The method that saves one destroys the other.
So before any price is given, we establish what the cover is. These pages explain the differences in the terms you can check yourself at home.

Common Questions
How do I know what my sofa is?
Usually we can tell from two photographs. If not, a small test area settles it.
Is faux leather repairable?
Sometimes, contained areas. Across a whole piece it is rarely worth the money.
Is the visit free?
Yes, with a written price before anything is booked.
What do you need from me?
Two photographs. One wide enough to show the piece, one close on the damage.
Do you work on site?
Almost always. The piece stays where it is and the kit comes to you.
Which areas do you cover?
All of Miami-Dade. Start at the county page.
How long does the work take?
Most single-piece work is one visit. We say which it is from the photographs, before you commit.
Is repair cheaper than replacing?
On a frame worth keeping, usually by a wide margin. On a stapled frame, often not, and we will say so.
Do you give a price over the phone?
A range, yes. The written figure follows the photographs or the visit.
